Tri-State Fair Accepts Nominees for Parade Marshal

The 84th Tri-State Fair and Rodeo Parade will travel down its tradition route on Sept. 15, but this year organizers are looking to the public to find the perfect leader for the annual event.

This year the parade theme is “The Tri-State Fair: A Tradition of Giving Back,” and in that spirit, organizers are looking for nominations of volunteers who have given back to their community and deserve to serve as Parade Marshall.

“We would like everyone to send us nominations of who they think should be honored in this way because of the time and energy they have given in the way of volunteer service,” Marketing Director Holly Shelton said. “We are looking for regular people who’ve made a difference in the community through their volunteer work.”

Nomination paragraphs should be sent via e-mail to tsfair@tristatefair.com or to: Tri-State Fair & Rodeo, Box 31087, Amarillo, Texas 79120. All nominations are due by Aug. 31.

Aug. 31 is also the deadline for parade entries.

Floats should be designed with the “A Tradition of Giving Back” theme in mind. Trophies and a cash award totaling $600 will be given to the top three parade floats (1st - $300, 2nd - $200, 3rd - $100).  Additional trophies will be awarded for the outstanding entry in the following categories: military, equestrian, JROTC unit, youth, open, bands (Jr. High, 1-A - 5 - A).

Awards will be presented near the office on “The Mix Family Stage" on the grounds at 5 pm, Sept. 15.

The parade will begin at 10am leading off at 11th Avenue and Polk Street and disperse in the north parking lot on 3rd Avenue between Buchanan and Johnson streets. KVII will continue the tradition of televising the parade live on Channel 7.

The Texas Ford Dealers Tri-State Fair & Rodeo is set for Sept. 14-22, 2007.
