You will watch rodeo athletes from all over the world compete in roping, roughstock and steer wrestling events.
These rodeo athletes are a rare breed. Their individual performance throughout the year determines their income.
Legend has it that rodeo was born on July 4, 1869 when two groups of cowboys from neighboring ranches met in Deer Trail, CO, to settle an argument over who was the best at performing everyday ranching tasks. That competition is considered to be the first rodeo which evolved into rodeo as we know it today (courtesy of the PRCA).
The sport of Rodeo has evolved into a world-wide competition since the 1800's. With events in Brazil, Mexico and other countries, Rodeo is a sport that has stood the test of time. These athletes share a sense of comradery with their competitors even though they may be striving for the same titles, they call it the "Cowboy Lifestyle ". This sport is classy yet unrefined, so make sure you get involved in the action September 18, 19 and 20 at 7 pm in the Amarillo National Center during the Texas Ford Dealers Tri-State Fair and Rodeo. This is a show that you will not want to miss.
