Top Three Contestants Move Forward…
Amarillo, TX, August 30, 2009 – The semi-final round of the Amarillo Star contest took place Sunday afternoon at the Big Texan Steak Ranch. The contest began at 2 PM with 12 semi-finalists from Oklahoma, Arizona and Texas competing for a spot in the top three. The top three contestants are Kyla Cowan of Beaver, OK, Calvin Holland of Amarillo and Jennica Kinney of Mooreland, OK. These contestants will move forward from the semi-final competition onto the final round, September 12, at the 2009 Texas Ford Dealers Tri-State Fair and Rodeo Gala featuring Billy Currington.
Texas Ford Dealers Tri-State Fair and Rodeo Gala is a fundraising event for Panhandle scholarships. The scholarships are awarded to outstanding youth in the local area.
“Amarillo Star” is an amateur vocal competition sponsored by the area’s largest annual event, the Texas Ford Dealers Tri-State Fair & Rodeo. The “Amarillo Star” will win a $1,000 grand prize and have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to open for country music sensation Billy Currington.
“This competition is top notch. It gives members of our local community and regional area the opportunity to highlight their vocal talent,” said Angela Ragland, Marketing Director.
The “Amarillo Star” competition joined Channel 10 News in their Summer Celebration Tour. The Tour visited five different cities in the Tri-State area to get the communities excited about summer, and to gain community involvement in local activities. Joining forces with Channel 10 assisted in generating contestants and publicity for
the “Amarillo Star” contest.
The top three contestants will perform for the top prize September 12, at the Gala featuring Billy Currington. Patrons may vote for their favorite “Amarillo Star” at www.newschannel10.com or www.kgncfm.com .
