The World’s Best Cowboys Go Pink…

Tough, rugged rodeo cowboys aren’t necessarily known for their softer side, but on Saturday, September 26, the world’s best cowboys will hit the dirt of the Amarillo National Center sporting the color pink.

“We want to paint the ANC pink,” said Marketing Director Angela Ragland. “Saturday night at the Rodeo will have a new look and a new mission.”

The Texas Ford Dealers Tri-State Fair & Rodeo has teamed up with the Amarillo chapter of Komen for the Cure to devote September 26th to raising money and awareness in the fight against breast cancer.

“If you have ever watched a rodeo, you know these cowboys and cowgirls are fighters. What better way to fight breast cancer than to get some of the toughest people in the world involved,” said General Manager Virgil Bartlett. “The ProRodeo contestants know this is a battle we all must get involved with to win.”

The Amarillo PRCA Rodeo has joined what is known as the “Tough Enough to Wear Pink” rodeo movement. Cowboys, bull fighters, volunteers and spectators will all be encouraged to wear pink to the rodeo and the fairgrounds Saturday evening. Komen for the Cure volunteers will also be selling pink products.

The “Tough Enough to Wear Pink” night is Saturday. The PRCA Rodeo runs Thursday, September 24th through Saturday, September 26th. All three performances begin in the Amarillo National Center at 7:30 pm.

Admission to the PRCA Rodeo is free Thursday and Friday with gate admission to the Texas Ford Dealers Tri-State Fair & Rodeo. Saturday’s performance is $5 in addition to gate admission to the fair. The Honky Tonk Tailgate Party will take place on the Budweiser Stage Friday night after the rodeo. Country music stars Mark Wills, Jeff Bates and Trent Willmon will be the featured entertainment during the Honky Tonk Tailgate Party. Country music female vocalist Heidi Newfield who is best know for her hit “Johnny & June” will close things out on the Budweiser Stage after Saturday night’s PRCA Rodeo.
