Amarillo, TX-The final round of the “Amarillo Star” contest took place September 12, in the Amarillo National Center. The contest was held during the Texas Ford Dealers’ Tri-State Fair and Rodeo Gala event. The contest included the top three contestants: Kyla Cowan from Balko, OK, Calvin Holland from Amarillo and Jennica Kinney from Mooreland, OK. The contest winner was Amarillo’s own Calvin Holland.
Holland sang his version of “She’ll Leave You with a Smile” by the king of country music George Strait.
“I am just happy that the ‘Amarillo Star’ is from Amarillo,” said Holland. “My family kept telling me that I was going to win. They gave me a lot of encouragement and I would like to thank them and all the fans that voted for me and most of all my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
Holland the 2009 “Amarillo Star” took home a $1,000 grand prize and will open for the “Honky Tonk Tailgate Party” on the Budweiser Main Stage, September 25, during the Texas Ford Dealers Tri-State Fair and Rodeo.
“Calvin did a great job! He had a tremendous amount of fan support at the Gala. All of us at the Amarillo Tri-State Exposition wish Holland the best of luck with his future singing career,” said Angela Ragland, Marketing Director.
