Limousin Cattle Show Returns
NALJA Shows Coming Back to Amarillo for 2009 & 2013

Release Date: May 15, 2007

The Amarillo Convention & Visitor Council and the Amarillo Tri-State Fairgrounds landed a large convention double booking for the city with the announcement that the North American Limousin Junior Association will stage its national show and futurity in Amarillo in 2009 and 2013.

Show dates are July 11-19, 2009 (firm) and July 13-21, 2013 (tentative). Both shows will be at the Amarillo National Center and both will use the new livestock pavilion at the Tri-State Fairgrounds.

The NALJA hosted their national show in Amarillo in 2002. They were one of the first groups to use the Amarillo National Center and the Tri-State Fairgrounds for a national cattle show. It was because the 2002 show was such a success that the NALJA decided to placed the 2009 and 2013 shows in Amarillo.

More than 600 head of Limousin cattle, all shown by exhibitors under the age of 19 years, are expected in both 2009 and 2013.

“This is a major coup for Amarillo. These two shows will bring exhibitors, family and friends to Amarillo; perhaps as many as 2,500 people and an estimated 2,300 room nights in our city each show year,” Jerry Holt, VP of the Amarillo CVC, says.

The estimated economic impact of the 2002 show was $1.7 million and the 2009 and 2013 shows should produce greater impact.

“We wanted to bring this national event back to Amarillo, but we didn’t have the space they needed without the addition of our new Livestock Pavilion last year. This new facility provided the space we needed to host a large event like Limousin,” according to Tri-State Exposition General Manager Virgil Bartlett.

In addition to the help of the staff at the Amarillo Tri-State Fairgrounds, Amarillo had the help and support of Mr. Bret Beggert and the Texas Limousin Association, which voted to endorse the show in Amarillo for both years.
